Ranking A Specialist Automotive Service Locally

When a customer is locked out of their car, position four does not exist.

South West England5 min readUpdated

The category

Specialist vehicle key replacement is an emergency purchase. The customer is standing next to a car they cannot start. They search, they scan the first few results, they call.

In that context the map pack is not one channel among several. It is effectively the entire market. Organic position seven may as well not exist.

The starting position

The business had genuine specialist capability and almost no structured local presence. Its services were described in general automotive language rather than the specific terms customers search, the profile listed a fraction of what it actually offered, and there were no pages for the towns it regularly travelled to.

What we changed

Service language matched to search language

Customers do not search using trade terminology. They search for what happened: lost car key, spare key programming, key fob not working, all keys lost. Pages were rebuilt around those phrasings rather than around the technical service names.

One page per problem

Each distinct situation got its own page. Someone who has lost every key has a different problem, a different cost and a different urgency to someone wanting a spare cut. Separating them let each page speak directly to the anxiety the reader arrived with.

Travel radius made explicit

The business served a wide area but said so nowhere. Town pages were built for the places it genuinely covered, with real detail about coverage and response, which extended visibility well beyond what the map pin alone could reach.

Profile completeness and review flow

Every service added with a written description, correct primary category, genuine photographs of work, and review requests made at the moment of completion when the customer is most relieved and most willing.

Vehicle specificity

Pages addressing particular manufacturers, because a customer with a specific marque searches for that marque. Generic automotive content loses those searches to anyone who names the vehicle.

What happened

The business became visible for problem specific queries across its genuine travel radius rather than only at its own postcode, and its map presence extended into towns it had always served but never appeared for.

Call volume data belongs to the client. We are not publishing estimates in place of it.

What transfers to any urgent local service

Use the customer's words, not the trade's. Build one page per problem. Say where you actually travel. Ask for the review while the relief is still fresh.

Urgency categories reward preparation, because there is no time for consideration once the search begins.
